MACL participated in National Ocean Clean-up event “Maldives for the Ocean”.
Velana International Airport, Maldives – 17th June 2023– The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) proudly took part in the national ocean clean-up event, “Maldives for the Ocean” demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Thoha, and Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Asad Hashim, officiated at the event, which was held as part of MACL's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
As an integral part of MACL's ongoing efforts to keep the environment clean, airport clean-up activities are scheduled regularly. Today's clean-up event brought together a total of 150 staff members, and students from Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSC), who actively participated in collecting waste along the Hulhule coastal area.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Managing Director Mr. Ibrahim Thoha stated that there are multiple activities are carried out at the airport to keep our nature and the environment safe, and similar kind activities are scheduled throughout the year.
During the clean-up, an estimated 17 tons of waste were collected, highlighting the significance of collective action in preserving our oceans and coastal areas.
In today’s event, MACL has received assistance from Urbanco and Waste Management Corporation Limited for assisting in the disposal of the collected waste, ensuring its proper management, and minimizing its impact on the environment.
MACL encourages everyone to play their part in maintaining a clean environment by reducing waste and disposing of it responsibly. By taking small steps in our daily lives, we can contribute to a sustainable future for our precious ecosystem.
